Click HereThe Blue Flag for beach tourism quality is an internationally recognized award given by the Foundation for Environmental Education, who bill the flag as “a world-renowned ecolabel trusted by millions around the globe”.
The criteria on which the award of Blue Flag status is based are grouped together in four areas, dealing in general terms with water quality, environmental information and education, the management of the environment and safety and the services and facilities made available to visitors. In this way residents and visitors at a Blue Flag beach are guaranteed that the part of the coastline where the flag is flying is clean and environmentally friendly and that adequate services are offered to make their visit as safe and enjoyable as possible.
In the municipality of Águilas the seven beaches awarded Blue Flag status for summer 2016 are those of Las Delicias, Levante, La Colonia, Poniente, Calarreona, La Higuerica and La Carolina. In addition, Blue Flags have also been awarded to the two marinas of Club Náutico Águilas and Puerto Deportivo Juan Montiel and the CIMAR museum has been awarded “Blue Centre” status.
At the same time, the Spanish Institute for Quality Tourism awards “Q for Quality flags” to beaches all around the country, offering their own guarantee regarding the services and facilities available for bathers. The aim of this certification is to reassure tourists that they are visiting beaches where bathing is safe and that quality services are provided by professional staff.
In the municipality of Águilas the six beaches flying the Q for Quality flag during the summer of 2016 are those of Playa de Poniente, Playa de La Colonia, Playa de Las Delicias, Playa de Levante, Calabardina and Calarreona.
An Ecoplaya award for environmental management has been awarded to the Águilas beach of Calarreona.
