ARCHIVED - Alhama Town Hall confirms the end of the Paramount theme park project

The re-classification of land for the Paramount park is now officially annulled

If anyone was still harbouring lingering hopes that the failed Paramount theme park project in Alhama de Murcia might somehow be revived, they would appear to have been dashed this week with the publication in the official bulletin of the Region of Murcia of modifications to the land use regulations in the municipality.

A special re-classification of the land designated for the Paramount project was created in Alhama in order to allow the park to be built, but last November, in an effort to bring its land use laws into line with reality, the council of Alhama de Murcia agreed to cancel that re-classification. This is the formality which has now been confirmed by its official publication, bringing to an end a saga which began in 2010, and which was doomed to failure by the inability of the project to attract investment.

One of the final nails in the project’s coffin was a court ruling which stated that part of the land on which the park was to be built was in a protected area, and with the passing of Jesús Samper, also former president of Real Murcia football club, in December 2015, the project already appeared doomed to failure: Sr Samper was the high-profile figure whose mission it was to get the leisure park off the ground, but proved unable to do so.
