Weather warnings for wind finally removed in Murcia: Weekend weather forecast January 30-February 2
This weekend should be calmer and brighter than earlier in the week, if not necessarily warmer
Finally, after several windy days – especially in coastal and western parts of Murcia – the Region is no longer subject to any weather alerts issued by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) as of this Thursday January 30.
Rather, for the weekend, Aemet forecasts sunny skies with windspeeds dying down to normal levels of just 5-15kmh and temperatures of 17-20ºC during the day and between 0-7ºC at night.
This Monday just gone, January 27, Murcia city registered a maximum temperature of 28.1ºC, a near-record breaking high for the month of January.
Then, just a day later on Tuesday January, the pendulum swung the other way with a fierce cold snap bringing up to 10cm of snow to the mountainous countryside of the far northwest of Murcia.
This was the extent of the effects of Storm Herminia in Murcia, which elsewhere in Spain caused damage, death and transport delays.
As the clouds part and the wind dies down this Thursday 30, Murcia is preparing for a Friday 31 that will bring “skies with cloudy intervals during the first half of the day, tending to partly cloudy or clear throughout the day,” according to Aemet.
They also note there may be “occasional showers around the Mar Menor in the afternoon”.
For Saturday February 1, Murcia can expect “fairly cloudy or clear skies, with intervals of medium and high clouds in the afternoon, when light precipitation is not ruled out, which would be snow above 900-1000 metres”.
Aemet also forecasts temperatures to fall slightly, “with light frosts in the north of the region,” with similar conditions in store for Sunday 2.
Looking ahead to the start of next week, temperatures will drop even further on Monday February 3, before climbing up again a little by Wednesday 5. There is also the chance of scattered showers on Monday, though Tuesday and Wednesday should be bright.
