San Pedro starts preparing its beaches ready for summer
Maintenance work is already well underway on two San Pedro del Pinatar beaches
The weather is finally starting to improve in the Region of Murcia and the sunnier days mean we can finally start thinking about summer. In San Pedro del Pinatar, preparations for high season are already well underway and since the beginning of March, the beaches have been bustling with activity as the council readies the shores for bathers this Easter.
San Pedro Council has topped up the beaches in Villananitos and La Puntica with 1,500 metres of sand. This meticulous work was planned to take advantage of the low tide and wintery temperatures to minimise the impact on the environment.
Dredging work is currently being carried out on the first 10 metres of the shore at shallow spots, to avoid unevenness and sinkholes, and a turbidity barrier is also being used.
All of the work is overseen by municipal technicians to avoid disturbing seagrass meadow areas.
The next step in these maintenance efforts will be the laying of sand in the coming weeks, followed by the installation of wooden walkways at the various entrances to the beaches.
To ensure the beaches are always in tip-top condition, the council organises beach cleanings throughout the year, in addition to repairs and routine maintenance of the toilets, footbaths and access points.With all of these measures in place, councillor Javier Castejón is confident that San Pedro del Pinatar’s beaches "will be in perfect condition this Easter."
