ARCHIVED - Lorca completes the Route of the Hermitages with incredible views over the city
The last 300 metre section of the 'Ruta de las Ermitas' runs from the castle viewpoint to Parque de La Mujer

Just in time for spring and ahead of peak season, Lorca Council has completed the last section of the Route of the Hermitages having adapted the last section from the viewpoint of the Castle to the Parque de La Mujer.
Town Hall representatives, including councillors for Local Development and Employment and Sports of Lorca City Council, Isabel Casalduero and Irene Jódar hiked the 'Ruta de las Ermitas' on Monday March 20 to see for themselves the improvements that have been made.
"We are pleased to have completed this route, an exciting project with which we wanted to value the hermitages of our more elevated neighborhoods with the creation of a pedestrian route that runs through urban sections and the foot of our spectacular Fortaleza del Sol (Fortress of the Sun)," said the local development councillor.
The last part of the route runs 300 metres starting from the viewpoint of the Castle, passing through the San Lazaro viewpoint and leading to the road of the upper districts, at the height of the Parque de La Mujer.
A staircase has been built with sleepers, a wooden safety handrail has been installed and 350 trees and shrubs of more than 100 different species have been planted.
"In addition, we have completed all sections with the placement of wooden posts and signage to mark the routes, seven supports with panoramic panels and three supports with planimetric maps," added the councillor for sports.
The 2.3km of the Ruta de las Ermitas joins the 4.7km route of the 'Cejo de los enamorados' and the castle trail (2 km long).
"These types of projects allow us to continue to promote healthy habits, knowledge of our wonderful natural environment and, of course, our historical heritage, all through hiking," added Lorca Council.
