Passengers on a Jet2 flight to London were asked to leave their plane at Tenerife South Airport on Friday September 25 after a bomb threat was reported on board.

 

Flight LS1536 was due to take off for Stansted at 11.20am. According to reports, one of the passengers made the threat, and the Guardia Civil ordered everyone off the aircraft as a precaution. The idea was simple enough: work out whether the threat was real or a false alarm.

 

Officers then went through the plane and the passengers' luggage, while those affected waited on the ground to find out whether they'd be flying at all. The checks also caused some temporary disruption to wider airport operations.

 

In the end, the security operation was completed and everyone was allowed back on. No explosive device has been reported, and the fact that passengers were let back on board suggests the checks were considered satisfactory. Authorities haven't released any details about the passenger involved or said whether any action has been taken against them.

 

The delay was considerable. The plane finally left Tenerife shortly before 2pm, roughly two and a half hours late, and according to Flightradar24 it touched down at Stansted at 5.49pm.

 

Jet2 confirmed that customers were asked to disembark following an incident involving a passenger, and said its teams worked closely with the relevant authorities before anyone was allowed to reboard. The airline offered its apologies, saying it wanted to "apologise to everyone onboard for the delay and any inconvenience caused."

 

For those on board, it was an unsettling start to what should have been a routine flight home. Thankfully, the outcome appears to have been nothing more than a long wait on the tarmac.
