ARCHIVED - Visitors and companions not allowed at Santa Lucía and Rosell Hospitals
Visits to those receiving care in the hospital have been suspended
The increase in Covid cases in the Region of Murcia has resulted in many changes to procedures in the last couple of weeks, to which the health authority has now added a prohibition for hospital visitors and for companions to accompany those seeking medical treatment.
From Monday onwards, security at the main entrances of the Santa Lucía and Rosell Hospitals will not allow entry into the premises of any person who is not a patient or is not attending the hospital for a diagnostic test, to go to a consultation with a specialist, or requires surgery or urgent care, so in other words, no companions are permitted, only the patient.
No patient visits are permitted either, the presence of companions in the rooms is also prohibited, and only those expressly authorized by the health personnel will be allowed. The regional health authority has said that only visits to patients who are fully immobilised will be permitted and only by prior agreement of the hospital.
Later in the day it was confirmed that this measure is now being applied to all hospitals in the region due to an outbreak in the Reina Sofía at the weekend.
Throughout all of last week, the regional health service has been implementing measures to try and free up staff resources, and to cope with the growing demands on its facilities and resources.

Murcian health service cancels all staff leave as covid situation deteriorates. Emergency wards have already been opened in anticipation of a surge in admissions, others are ready and waiting (such as the second floor in the Rosell in Cartagena; click to read full article); this week the regional health service has suspended non-urgent operations in all of the hospitals of the region and on Thursday issued a decree suspending all holidays and leave permits for health personnel of the regional health service in order to "have all the human resources that are necessary in the coming weeks".
Murcian college of doctors calls for full lockdown. The official College of Doctors in the Region of Murcia has requested that a full lockdown be imposed by the regional government for a period of a fortnight in response to the soaring incidence rates observed over the last few days. Hospital and intensive care unit beds are becoming ever more scarce as case numbers rise, and the doctors consider that drastic measures are required in order to guarantee that the health service is not overwhelmed.
