Vehicle access to Calblanque Regional Park restricted from March 28
Car parking spaces will be limited at the Cartagena beauty spot until October
Visitors to the Calblanque, Monte de las Cenizas and Peña del Águila Regional Park in Cartagena will once again face restrictions on car access and parking during peak seasons this year. The move aims to protect the environment and ensure the conservation of natural habitats and species.
From Thursday April 28 (Maundy Thursday) until Sunday October 13 (the second weekend of October), there will be 118 regulated days, with limited spaces for cars, although as usual, a bus service will be available.
During these dates, five control points will be set up on the access roads to ensure compliance: on the RM-12, Camino de Los Belones, El Atochar, La Boquera and the Las Cobaticas Visitor Centre.
Between July 6 and September 1, access by motor vehicles will be prohibited between 8am and 8.30pm, except for a one-hour window (between 8am and 9am) to access the El Atochar parking area. There are 291 parking spaces available here in total.
Visitors can still use bicycles or single-person electric vehicles without a seat (scooters) within the Public Road Use Zone of the Regional Park.
Visitor access to the beaches will also be done through buses, which will leave from Los Belones and will stop at the park and ride.
Camping on the beaches of the Regional Park is prohibited between June 1 and September 30, as are dogs. From October 1, owners are reminded that they must keep their pets on a leash in the rest of the park's areas.
Some roads within the park will also be closed, including those that run through the north of the Salinas del Rasall and the one leading from the El Atochar area to the Larga-Negrete area. Starting December 15, climbing will be prohibited in the El Pico and Cabezo de la Fuente sectors to protect bird nesting sites.
According to María Cruz Ferreira, regional Secretary of Energy, Sustainability and Climate Action, these measures have been implemented after consulting with various stakeholders and receiving their support. She emphasised that the goal is to strike a balance between environmental conservation and public enjoyment of the park.
