Travel agents across Spain are forecasting double bookings for Easter this year and that can only be good news for the country’s economic recovery, and already the Region of Murcia is predicting that the Holy Week or Semana Santa campaign will generate a whopping 145% more jobs than in 2021, a year that was of course marked by coronavirus restrictions and perimeter closures.

 

Human Resources experts Randstad have estimated that some 2,450 jobs will be created in the Region in the coming weeks, compared to just 986 last year. And the positive forecasts are spread nationally, with around 63,380 work contracts expected to be handed out for the Easter period throughout Spain, more than double 2021’s figures. Of course, the data still falls short of pre-pandemic 2019, when 45% more jobs were created at Easter.

"The best news that the Easter campaign can give us is that, despite the good figures that are expected at the hiring level, there is still a wide margin for growth until we return to pre-pandemic levels," Valentin Bote, director of Randstad Research, explained.

 

While all of the autonomous communities will increase employment rates in a “remarkable” way, Castilla-La Mancha is leading the way by tripling the number of work contracts, followed by the Basque Country and Madrid, upping their employment by 164.5% and 159% respectively.

 

In absolute terms, Andalucia will sign the most new contracts during Easter, with 13,820 new jobs, followed by Catalonia (8,420) and Madrid (7,960). In fact, between them, these three regions will account for around 48% of the total hiring during Holy Week.
