ARCHIVED - Three fires overnight caused by lightning strike
These were spread across Molina de Segura, Abanilla and in the Sierra Minera between Cartagena and La Unión
Members of the Infomur regional firefighting plan controlled three forest fires in the municipalities of Molina de Segura, Abanilla and between Cartagena and La Unión. All of them were caused by lightning.
The first was at 00.04 hours in the Sierra del Águila, in the municipality of Molina de Segura which require the efforts of the regular regional firefighting service(CEIS), Civil Protection volunteers and 4 forestry brigades which was stabilized at 04.48 after burning 2.5 hectares of land.
The firefighting helicopter based in the Sierra de la Pila continued work afterwards to thoroughly damped down the whole area and prevent further outbreaks.
The second fire started at 00:29 in the Sierra de Quibas, in the Balonga district of Abanilla. CEIS firefighters, Civil Protection volunteers and forest brigades worked until the fire was controlled at 04.53 when a rapid intervention brigade took over the damping down work. Approximately 1.5 hectares were burned in this fire.
The third started at 03.14 am near to the El Gorguel beach, on the coast of the Sierra Minera inbetween the municipalities of Cartagena and La Unión. Firefighters from the Cartagena Firefighting and Rescue Service and regional fire service, the CEIS extinguished the blaze, which covered 1 hectare.
