ARCHIVED - Spanish pizzeria ranked among top 3 in the world
Three restaurants in Spain feature in this year’s 50 Top World Artisan Pizza Chains ranking

Mention Spanish dining, and most people think of paella, tapas and even sangria, at a push. But multi-cultural Spain has long been making a name for itself in cuisines from all over the globe, and this latest accolade places the nation among the best in the world at creating artisan pizzas.
The prestigious 50 Top World Artisan Pizza Chains 2022, regarded as one of the most important guides in the sector, has awarded first, second and third place to restaurants that can all be found in Spain. But the most celebrated prize on the Peninsula goes to Grosso Napoletano, which took third place overall.
Founded in Madrid, this chain is considered one of the benchmarks for Neapolitan pizza in Spain and is enjoyed in cities such as Valencia, Zaragoza, Seville, Pamplona, Barcelona, Murcia and San Sebastian.
Held at the Auditorium El Beatriz Madrid, the award ceremony examined hundreds of pizzerias around the world and judged them on presentation, preparation, customer service and quality of ingredients.
Taking the top spot is Da Michele, a brand created by the Condurro family 150 years ago in the heart of Forcella, Naples. The historic Neapolitan legacy has expanded into Japan, England, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Germany and Spain, where a reservation at their Barcelona eatery is always in high demand.
Coming in second place is the French pizzeria Big Mamma Group, whose love of Italian pies stems from passionate owners Victor Lugger and Tigrane Seydouxe. This delectable chain can now be found in France, England and Germany. In Spain, Bel Mondo, in Madrid, is the only spot where you can taste their world-renowned pizzas.
Last year, Madrid’s Grosso Napoletano was given the honour of tenth place but the Spanish pizzeria has shot up by an impressive seven points in 2022 to be ranked the third best restaurant of its kind in the world.
