Spain heats up for Semana Santa as temperatures head towards 30°C
The week gives way to sunshine and spring warmth just in time for the Easter getaway
After a windy and unsettled start to Semana Santa, the weather across Spain is finally turning a corner, and it is looking much more like spring. At the beginning of the week, conditions were far from ideal, with strong winds, rain and even some snow in parts of the country. But things are already improving. Forecasters had been pointing to brighter skies and warmer temperatures as the week went on, and that change is now starting to take hold.
From Wednesday April 1, temperatures are climbing steadily, with several areas already reaching around 25°C, including Badajoz, Córdoba, Huelva, Murcia and Seville, while parts of the Guadalquivir Valley could push closer to 29°C or 30°C.

By the weekend, the warmth becomes more widespread, with up to nine provinces expected to exceed 25°C, including Bilbao, Granada, Jaén, Ourense and Toledo, while elsewhere temperatures remain pleasantly mild, generally between 20°C and 25°C.
In Andalucía, the rise will be particularly noticeable. Seville is expected to reach around 27°C by Thursday, before climbing steadily to around 31°C by Sunday, with much of the rest of the region, including Huelva and Málaga, sitting comfortably in the mid to high twenties.
Along the Mediterranean coast, conditions will feel more settled but slightly cooler. Alicante and Valencia are expected to hold steady in the low twenties throughout the week and into the weekend.
It is quite a turnaround from the start of the week, particularly along the Mediterranean coast where strong winds have been making things feel cooler and more unsettled. Gusts are still expected in some exposed areas and could reach up to 100 km/h at times, so it will not be completely calm everywhere.
Continuing in the south, Murcia is following the same pattern. After a cooler start to the week, the region was forecast to gradually warm up, bringing a more settled and comfortable feel by midweek (Murcia March 31 forecast). Across the Region of Murcia, temperatures will generally sit in the mid twenties, with Murcia city itself reaching around 26°C by Sunday.
There are still a few exceptions. The Balearic Islands could see some rain between Wednesday and Thursday, while in the Canary Islands the focus shifts to heat and dust. According to Meteored, the islands are “preparing for a significant influx of Saharan dust”, with temperatures in Tenerife reaching around 27°C before dipping slightly afterwards.
All in all, it is a much more promising outlook for Semana Santa than it first appeared. For many, the coming days will bring sunshine, rising temperatures and a welcome chance to enjoy the holiday outdoors.
