ARCHIVED - Scrubfire in Fuente Alamo caused by lightning
Firemen rapidly extinguished the blaze in the Sierra de la Perdiz
Although tens of thousands of lightning rays have been registered during the passage of the DANA in the last couple of days, there have been relatively few reports of fire, freeing up firemen to pump out flooded basements instead.
The regional 112 service however, was called to a minor scrubfire in the Sierra de la Perdiz, within the municipality of Fuente Álamo shortly after 10.00 on Thursday morning.
An environmental agent checked out the location, and confirmed the existence of the fire, which had been caused by a lightning strike, advising that due to the difficulty in accessing the area via road, aerial support would be required.A helicopter from the regional forestry fire division was duly despatched from the Alcantarilla base, compete with a helicopter support crew who were dropped at the scene and rapidly brought the scrubfire under control via the backbreaking method of beating and raking soil over the smouldering scrub.
All resources were withdrawn at 12.47.
