ARCHIVED - Save time and money by paying your Modelo 210 property tax with Spanish Taxes Online
The December 31st tax deadline is looming but Spanish Taxes Online are on hand to help.
Anyone who owns a property in Spain which they do not rent out is liable to pay the Modelo 210 property tax if they are not resident in Spain for tax purposes and the annual deadline for payment of December 31st is fast approaching, but it will come as a great relief to many such owners that a great new service which will save them time and money has just been launched online.
The Spanish Taxes Online website (www.spanishtaxesonline.com) is an easy-to-use, one-stop service which enables overseas property owners to file and pay their Modelo 210 non-letting taxes direct online in just minutes for a fee of only 59 euros (plus 7% VAT).
Savings could easily amount to hundreds of euros for owners who are currently using a lawyer or accountant to do the job for them. On the other hand, anyone who until now has been filling in the paperwork themselves will be keen to make the most of this easy way to bypass the hassle and the hours spent interacting with the Spanish tax authorities when trying to file and pay their Modelo 210 non-letting taxes.
The tax concerned is essentially an annual levy on “imputed income”, as non-resident-owned properties are automatically deemed to be a form of income by the Spanish tax authorities, regardless of whether they are rented out or not.
The Modelo 210 non-letting tax is levied retrospectively – so owners will currently be paying tax for the year 2019 - and the number of owners liable to pay the tax in 2021 (in relation to 2020) is expected to increase as many holiday rental properties in Spain have sat idle this year as a result of the pandemic.
Failure to pay the Modelo 210 non-letting tax can lead to complications with the Spanish authorities, especially when owners come to sell their properties. In many cases fines have been issued and embargoes imposed, with the Spanish authorities extracting taxes owed directly from non-resident bank accounts.
