ARCHIVED - Saturday and Sunday free guided tours of the interactive Moorish wall museum in Molina de Segura
MUDEM: Museo del enclave de la Muralla
Route title: VISITA GUIADA AL MUDEM (MUSEO DEL ENCLAVE DE LA MURALLA)
Molina de Segura was an important strategical point controlling the communications route between the capital city of Murcia and the north and north-west of the Region of Murcia and the remains seen on this tour date back to the period when the Moors ruled the modern-day Murcia Region.
Murcia city was itself built by the Moors and when the walls were first built in Molina de Segura, was a walled and fortified city.
This museum is built around the original mediaeval walls of Molina de Segura which were uncovered in 2004, measuring 125 metres in length and with a nonagonal tower (9 sided) and is an interactive experience, using modern technology to submerge the visitor in the daily life of Medieval Molina de Segura.
Visitors can learn the history of the town through interactive games and the latest technology, returning to the period between the 11th and 15th centuries when these walls were in use. It's well worth a visit, particularly if there are youngsters in the home learning Spanish.
On Saturdays the guided tours start at 18:30.
On Sundays the tours are at 11:15.
Please note; both visits are available most weekends although occasionally only one may be running.
The tour is in Spanish, although visitors to the museum will find all of the information panels in English as well as Spanish.
The MUDEM can also be visited independently and is an excellent focal point for a morning out in Molina de Segura.Click for more information about the MUDEM.
