Roadworks to start on the RM-12 into La Manga after the summer
Before the summer is out, there will also be a new public access road to one of La Manga’s most popular beaches
The Governing Council of the Region of Murcia has given the go-ahead to a contract to reinforce the road surface of the RM-12, commonly known as the autovía de La Manga.
The road to La Manga is a high-capacity dual carriageway which starts at the AP-7 and ends at the access to the Gran Vía de La Manga, which runs the length of La Manga del Mar Menor.
The road belongs to the First Level Network owned by the Autonomous Community of Murcia, and the work is slated to take place on both carriageways of several sections, with a base tender budget of almost 1.8 million euros and a three-month completion period, which will begin after the summer.
This was announced by the spokesman for the regional government, Marcos Ortuño, after a meeting of the Governing Council.
At the same time, Cartagena City Council has moved forward with plans to create a new access road to the Playa del Barco Perdido beach in La Manga.
The Community of Owners of the Babilonia urbanisation has ceded a plot of land to the council so it can build a road this summer to guarantee public access to the beach from the Gran Vía.
The proposal to accept the transfer of the plot of land has already been approved by the Governing Board of the City Council of Cartagena, and it is expected that the works for the new access will be completed by this summer.
Once the deed of cession is formalised, it will include the commitment of the Town Hall to carry out the works on the road that is being ceded, taking charge of the costs as well as taking on the management of the rainwater from the parking area of the community of owners, which will now be discharged into the newly created public road.
