Click HereThis Wednesday Mari Carmen Moreno, the Mayoress of Águilas, visited the site where a 30,000-square-metre “forest park” is being created in which plants will be irrigated using treated water and the whole system powered by solar energy, as part of the Life Adaptate program which is partially financed by European Union funding.
The main purpose of the project is to create the forest park but it is also part of the initiative on the part of the Town Hall to carry out measures to protect the climate and use renewable energy sources, measures which numerous local administrations have committed to implementing by the year 2030. Also taking part in the same project are the Town Halls of Cartagena and Lorca, as well as the equivalent administrative bodies of Mértola and Alfândega da Fé in Portugal and the municipality of Smiltene in northern Latvia.
The large green area in Águilas is designed to represent various of the ecosystems in the Region of Murcia, the main aim being to set an example of adapting to climate change at a local level (in this case, according to Mayoress Mari Carmen Moreno, by creating shade, lowering the temperature and preserving humidity).
In addition, this new forest park will also feature a cycle lane and a network of paths within its boundaries.
