ARCHIVED - Positive Covid cases in Murcia Region drop to 88 on Tuesday
17 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours
Five new cases of Covid-19 have been diagnosed in the last 24 hours in the Region of Murcia, but as 17 people have officially “recovered” from the virus, the overall total of active cases has settled at 88. Of these, 68 patients remain in home isolation with mild symptoms and 20 are hospitalised with more serious cases.
For the second consecutive day the intensive care beds allocated for covid patients remain empty and the fatalities remain unchanged at 151.
The total number of cases since the pandemic first began in the region is now 3,465.
The regional government says that the four outbreaks in the region are all “under control” and the regional epidemiological service has traced and contacted all those believed to be possible contacts; the “Bolivian outbreak” relating to three Bolivian nationals who flew into Spain via Barajas airport in Madrid and then travelled to their home in Murcia now has 62 cases, 18 within the Fruveco frozen vegetable packing plant in El Raal on the outskirts of Murcia city and 14 more amongst the contacts of company employees.
From Monday the Murcian regional Government has made the use of masks in public mandatory as part of its efforts to “find solutions” to the outbreaks and ensure that the region remains a safe destination for tourists as well as a healthy environment for residents.
Regional president, Fernando López Miras, has made it absolutely clear that he will not hesitate to enforce localised lockdowns should he believe that the general population is at risk, his argument being the fact that Murcia has enjoyed the lowest number of cases and lowest number of deaths in the country means that the resident population is the most vulnerable to another outbreak, having acquired the lowest level of immunity to further outbreaks(only 1.6% according to the conclusions of a 3-part national study).
