Paseo Alfonso XII

The dockside area is known as the Muelle Alfonso XII

Paseo Alfonso XIIThe Paseo Alfonso XII is the main road which runs alongside the waterfront of Cartagena. On the one side is the old quarter of the city and imposing Muralla del Mar, the wall which protected the old city and on the other the modern waterside area which contains a number of buildings, bars and restaurants.

The pedestrian waterside area is often referred to as the Muelle Alfonso XII, or docks of Alfonso XII and many cultural events take place in this particular area throughout the year. The most popular locations are at either end, as the middle section is taken up with bars and commercial units.
At one end of the Muelle is the CIM building, former naval installations which have now been converted into part of the Cartagena Polytechnic complex. At the left hand bottom corner of the CIM building is the Naval Museum, alongside a dock area containing a sculpture of a whale tail in the water. This far corner is a popular area for activities to take place.

The other area is right at the opposite end next to the ARQUA subaquatic museum, and the Auditorio El Batel.

The nearest parking is underneath the Paseo itself, and those with camper vans can park right at the far end on the opposite side of the road to the Auditorium, by the Extranjería.
