October 20 to 22 Mar & Huerta Gastronomy Fair in Aguilas
Flavours of the sea combine with locally grown produce for the annual Águilas gastro fair
Over the weekend of October 20 to 22 the Plaza Antonio Cortijos in Águilas is hosting the Mar&Huerta gastronomic fair, which is organized by the Asociación de Hostelería y Turismo de Águilas (HosteÁguilas) in collaboration with the Town Hall and the regional tourist board of Murcia.
As well as the traditional “Tapas Avenue” the event features live music, show cooking and children’s activities, displays and even arts and crafts as for three days the town of Aguilas becomes a hub of the regional gastronomy, highlighting the tastes of the sea and the products grown in the south-west of Murcia.
Individual tickets for the Tapas Avenue can be purchased at the event for 2.00, 2.50, 3.50 or 5 euros.
In addition, there is a gastronomic maritime adventure on board the Don Pancho tourist boat which anyone purchasing 25 euros’ worth of tapas and drinks can join for free, and on Friday October 20 at 16.30 a free guided tour of the seafront of Águilas is being held. This includes a walk around the fishing port and the Fishermen’s promenade, a visit to the fish auction in the port and explanations of the historical and cultural importance of fishing in Águilas, beginning with the production of “garum” sauce by the Romans, and finally a visit to the Plaza de Abastos food market to see where much of the catch goes directly on sale to the public.
Reservations should be made by email to info@hosteaguilas.com, specifying name and surname.
On each of the three days the fair opens from 12.00 to 17.00 and from 20.00 until midnight.
