ARCHIVED - November 25 to 27 International Wine Tourism Fair in Jumilla
Wine tastings, gastronomy, show cooking, music and activities for youngsters in the Plaza de Abastos in Jumilla
International Wine Tourism Day has been officially designated as falling on the second Saturday in November, but this is something of a movable feast and in Jumilla, in the north of the Region of Murcia, events are sprinkled throughout the month as the celebrations continue.
One of the highlights in 2022 is a new event, a DOP Jumilla and Wine Tourism Fair which is being held in and around the Plaza de Abastos (food market) over the weekend of November 25 to 27. The fair runs all day on Saturday and Sunday, and further information and tickets can be obtained from the tourist office (telephone 968 780 237 or 663 300779).
For the many wineries or bodegas producing DOP Jumilla wines this is another showcase event which, it is hoped, will boost their popularity in Murcia, the rest of Spain and indeed the world. As well as locals and day visitors, it is expected that the event will be attended by wine experts from all over the globe.
21 bodegas are taking part in the fair, which opens on November 25 at 18.00 before the official presentations at 19.00 and live music from Antonio Micol at 21.00.
Further musical entertainment is provided by the Grupo de Coros y Danzas de Jumilla on Saturday November 26 at 13.30, and on the same day there are children’s workshops from 12.00 to 14.00 (as is the case the following day) and 17.00 to 20.00.
During Saturday afternoon there will be a series of special tasting events which are to be conducted in a solemn atmosphere, each with a maximum of 30 participants allowed.
At the same time, special menus and tapas are being offered at bars and restaurants affiliated to the Jumilla Wine Route, and among them 5 restaurants and 3 bars are taking part in the Gastronomic Days which are running until November 27.
