New, state-of-the-art campus at the International British-curriculum school ELIS Murcia in Montevida to open in September 2020
ELIS Murcia will inaugurate new facilities for Secondary and Sixth Form students
Murcia grows and El Limonar International School Murcia grows with it. Earlier this year, the ELIS Cognita Executive Principal, Chris Eversden, announced the acquisition of 15,000 m2 in the Montevida residential development, owned by Profusa (Fuertes Group). Building work is on target to finish construction this summer and thus fulfil the objective of opening the doors of ELIS Murcia Montevida for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Currently, this international British curriculum school has almost 800 students from 3 to 18 years old at its 60,000m2 campus in El Palmar (Murcia), close to Finca Buenavista. The new facilities in Montevida will provide Secondary and Sixth Form students with a modern learning environment from September 2020, creating 450 additional places in the school over the next 8-10 years. This will allow for a redevelopment of the Primary facilities on the current site in El Palmar to create a richer and more modern learning environment for the school’s younger students.
The new facility will include installations for athletics, sport, Drama studies, Art and Design, Music, Sciences and Research. The campus is designed to promote collaborative, active learning and to develop study skills within a modern environment.
The school itself becomes the heart of the teaching and learning process. It has been designed to have a minimal environmental impact, both through its construction materials and energy use; and is the first Cognita school purposely designed and built in such a way as to take advantage of the fantastic surroundings offered by our region. These fundamental environmental credentials include:
• Generation of its own electricity;
• Integrated air temperature control systems;
• Collection and storage of rainwater and its use across the school;
• Construction using low-impact building materials;
• Maximized use of the beautiful Verdolay natural environment for teaching and learning.
El Limonar International School Murcia is part of the global Cognita family of schools. Cognita is an international group of diverse yet connected schools joining forces in an inspiring world of education. With some 70+ schools in Europe, Latin America and Asia, the Cognita group in Spain is made up of seven schools, considered to be amongst the best international schools in the country. The British School of Barcelona (BSB), Hastings School, The English Montessori School (TEMS) and Colegio Europeo de Madrid (CEM) in Madrid, El Limonar lnternational School Murcia, El Limonar lnternational School Villamartín in Alicante, and British School of Valencia (BSV) teach up to 3 different curriculums: the British, the Spanish and the International Baccalaureate (IB).
As a member of the extensive Cognita family of schools, ELIS Murcia benefits from the support and best practices offered by being part of a global and international group, as well as the guarantee of powerful present and future investments, such as the aforementioned new campus, in benefit of its community.
Open days for parents interested in enrolling their children at ELIS Murcia for the 2020-21 academic year are being held at the El Palmar site on 11th and 25th February and 10th March: click here for further details.
