An expat who owns farmland in the area has volunteered her property to act as the site of a new camping site

The town of Mula in northern Murcia will be the latest place to get a brand-new motorhome park after the first free rest area for motorhomes and caravans on the Murcia coast was inaugurated in Los Alcázares a month ago.

Caravan and campervan holidays are becoming more popular in Spain, and many towns on the sunny coastal areas of Spain are catering to this new need by building more motorhome parking areas. Orihuela on the Costa Blanca, for example, has also recently unveiled plans for two new motorhome overnight stay sites.

Meanwhile, Mazarrón in Murcia has introduced a series of new laws to try and regulate the boom in camping and ensure that campers and caravan owners park up responsibly, especially in protected natural areas like beaches.

The Mula campsite, which will mainly be aimed at motorhome tourism, is to be located at the foot of Sierra Espuña Natural Park, a beautiful forested area that is perfect for walks and activities in the open air.

The project has been launched by Nancy Jacqueline Dekimpe, the expat owner of a farm located in the Juárez area, halfway between the municipality of Pliego and the small, picturesque village of Casas Nuevas.

When completed, it will be the first campsite in Mula, integrated into the natural surroundings and with a capacity for no more than ten motorhomes. The project is still in its infancy and is yet to be fully finalised, but it may also have a wooden cabin for guests.

For the moment, the Local Government Board of Mula Town Council has reported favourably on the request for a change in use of the land from farming land into a motorhome site, though it may take several months for the work to come to fruition.
