ARCHIVED - More than 3 million Spanish residents now fully innoculated against Covid-19
Spain has broken its vaccination record again by administering 453,682 doses in a day.
Three and a half months on from the launch of the coronavirus vaccination campaign that started on 27 December, Spain has reached a new milestone in the battle against the pandemic.
More than 3 million people across the country, in other words, 6.4 per cent of the population, have now been fully inoculated with two doses of vaccine, the Ministry of Health has reported.
Altogether, 6,791,079 individuals (14.3 per cent of the population) have received at least one dose. As of Thursday, a total of 9,811,529 injections had been administered, 81.8 per cent of the almost 12 million doses that Spain has received so far.
Moreover, the regional health services have once again beaten their record by administering 453,682 doses in just 24 hours, the ministry has announced.
The vaccination rate is now approaching the ‘cruising speed’ that the government was aiming for of half a million injections a day, as Spanish President Pedro Sánchez promised on Tuesday.
However, there has been significant confusion over the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine this week and late on Thursday it was announced that this will now be administered to those aged 60-69. Click for full information about this third change in a week!
