“The best rock opera ever” comes to the Auditorio Infanta Elena in Águilas to raise funds for cancer research

A performance of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s musical Jesus Christ Superstar, viewed by some as the finest rock opera ever, is scheduled at the Auditorio Infanta Elena in Águilas on March 26.

Over 50 amateur singers, actors and dancers belonging to the Asociación Jesucristo Superstar Murcia make up the cast for the show, the plot of which follows the week leading up to the crucifixion of Christ seen from the point of view of Judas Iscariot. This version of the musical is in Spanish, and also features members of the Carmen Romero dance company.

The Asociación Jesucristo Superstar Murcia was formed in 2014 and has received praise for previous performances at the Teatro Romea in 2017 and the Teatro Guerra in Lorca in 2018. Their mission is to raise money for charitable causes, and in this case all ticket sale proceeds will be donated to a cancer charity which funds research into cancer in young children.

The performance in Águilas begins at 20.30 with tickets priced at 15 euros and available from the Casa de la Cultura, the Museo Arqueológico of Águilas and online here. Spare tickets will be on sale two hours before the curtain rises at the Auditorium box office.
