ARCHIVED - Madrid will close its external borders from 4th to 14th December
This bridges either side of the Puente de la Constitución Bank Holiday and prevents a mass exodus from Madrid as is normally the case
The epidemiological situation in Madrid has been improving day by day for the last two months, as the measures imposed on the city have been quietly taking effect and bringing down the number of cases reported. On September 28th the average accumulated incidence of infections for a 14- day period reached its peak of the second wave, at 784 cases per 100,000. This Thursday, the indicator went below 300 for the first time since the arrival of the second wave and the region achieved what was unthinkable a month ago; becoming the region of Spain with the lowest accumulated incidence rate for 14 days, dipping below 300.
There’s still a long way to go, but these are hugely positive results.
The Government of the Region of Madrid has set itself the objective of “arriving at Christmas in good condition” and has consequently decided to use the same formula that it applied during the two holidays of Todos los Santos and the Almudena festivities, for the forthcoming Puente de la Constitución.
The region will close its perimeter external borders from 00:00 on Friday 4th until 00:00 on Monday, December 14th, prohibiting residents to leave or enter the Community of Madrid except for justified reasons.
This is to prevent Madrilenians from heading to holiday homes on the coast, inland, or to ski resorts as is normal during this pre- Christmas break.
In the immediate future, the regional government has announced modifications in the confinements of basic health areas with the highest incidence in the Community, and has moved the threshold down to 400 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
From Monday six new health areas will be confined: Vicalvaro-Artilleros (in Vicálvaro), La Elipa (in Ciudad Lineal), Cuzco, Castilla La Nueva and Alicante, in Fuenlabrada and La Moraleja, in Alcobendas.
Areas in which the restrictions have now been lifted are: Barrio del Puerto and Doctor Tamames (in Coslada), Nuñez Morgado, Puerta del Ángel, Virgen de Begoña and Villaamil, in Madrid capital, Pintores (in Parla).
