ARCHIVED - Lorca residents help police stop squatter from occupying a building in the town centre
The would-be squatter was one of eight people arrested in the Murcia town last week
The Local Police in Lorca prevented an attempted squatting last week thanks to the cooperation of local people.
As reported by the Councillor for Citizen Security of the City of Lorca, José Luis Ruiz Guillén, “the Policía Local received a warning alerting them to a possible attempt to occupy an uninhabited house in the historic centre of the municipality. According to the caller a person had climbed up the façade of the property and entered through the window.”
The officers went to the house and identified a person inside who had just entered the property by climbing to the first floor and breaking a window to gain access. The man was taken to the National Police Station for identification and charged with squatting and for possession of hashish, which was found during the search.
Other arrests in Lorca
The councillor for Citizen Security specified that “also, during the week of July 25 to 31, seven more people were arrested: one arrested for domestic violence, one arrested for breach of the Law on Foreigners and five arrested for exceeding the permitted blood alcohol level at the wheel, two of them also for resistance and disobedience of drivers who refused to undergo breathalyser tests.
“Among the actions carried out last week, it is also worth mentioning that an individual was intercepted carrying sacks of stolen feed and proceedings were instituted for the commission of an alleged offence of theft for referral to the corresponding court, a brawl was attended in Plaza de Curtidores with the corresponding identification of the group members and two fines were issued for consumption of alcoholic beverages on public roads, as well as three proceedings for possession of narcotic substances.”
José Luis Ruiz Guillén has praised the work of police in keeping the municipality safe: “Once again, the extraordinary work carried out daily by our local police officers in Lorca shows an operational efficiency every week that demonstrates the effectiveness of their work.”
