ARCHIVED - Lorca replants 14 native jacaranda trees on the Carratera de Caravaca road
The council has replanted the 14 trees that were controversially uprooted in works earlier this year
A total of 14 jacaranda trees have been lovingly replanted on the Carretera de Caravaca in Lorca’s Los Ángeles neighbourhood, after they were removed earlier this year for remodelling work by regional authorities.
The Councillor for Local Development of Lorca Town Hall, Isabel Casalduero, explained that the replanting of the 14 jacaranda trees on the Caravaca Road was part of “the Lorca City Council fulfilling its commitment… to the maintenance of plant species found in our municipality.”
She continued, “These trees come from the Caravaca Road and were going to be uprooted during the remodelling work carried out by the Regional Government in the area, which is why the Town Hall, in its policy of maintaining as many plant specimens as possible, has taken on their removal, conservation in a nursery and now their planting in this area next to the University Campus.”
“Since their removal, which was carried out through the Department of Local Development,” she said, “the trees have been kept in a nursery and have now been replanted in a green space next to the University Campus, in the Parque de Los Ángeles.”
Isabel Casalduero has underscored “the commitment of this government team, with the Mayor, Diego José Mateos at the head, to care for our plant species, while advancing in the urban renewal of Lorca and, of course, is committed to revitalising and enhancing areas such as the Los Ángeles neighbourhood, which houses the University Campus, and creating new green spaces that provide our town with new places for leisure and recreation.”
