ARCHIVED - Lockdown means lockdown. Águilas police amongst those forced to fine
Some people are ignoring the lockdown restrictions
Águilas police have posted an image on social media showing just how many sanctions they are being forced to impose on those who ignore the lockdown order.
Although the majority of Águilas residents are obeying the confinement order issued by the Spanish Government as part of its declaration of the State of Emergency due to the coronavirus epidemic, the Policial Local of Águilas has been forced to issue the first fines to residents who appear not to understand that remaining in their homes is the most effective way of fighting the health crisis which we are all facing together.
“In general, we are observing a high level of social and civil responsibility by the citizens of the municipality, although there are exceptions” he said.
The councillor for Citizen security in Águilas, Tomás Consentino, has commented that we are now moving out of the period of allowance for adjustment, and that whereas last week the talk was of recommendations to the public we are now under a national State of Emergency and we are having to talk about the obligation to respect legislation, in which case fines will be issued of between 601 and 30,000 euros depending on the severity of the infringement.
The municipality is well supported by the police and emergency forces who have been undertaking controls to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and to ensure that the national State of Emergency is respected.
Specific legislation limits the movement of the general public, who must remain indoors, and should only leave their homes for specific pruposes
The most important measure introduced is that MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ARE CONFINED TO THEIR HOMES FOR A PERIOD OF AT LEAST 2 WEEKS, although a prolongation of the confinement period appears almost certain.
Specifically, the Royal Decree states the following:
1. For as long as the emergency state of emergency remains in force it is only permitted to use public roads for the following purposes:
- To acquire essential food, pharmaceuticals and other necessary goods.
- To visit medical centres and other health facilities.
- To travel to work and business or professional obligations.
- To return home from the obligations mentioned above.
- To visit and look after the elderly, young people, dependents and people who are especially vulnerable.
- To visit banks, other financial institutions and insurance offices.
- For reasons of force majeure or emergencies.
- For any other reason of a similar nature, and always alone except in cases where disabled people require a helper or for other justifiable reasons.
2. The use of private vehicles on public roads is permitted for the above activities and for re-fuelling at petrol stations.
3. In all cases, on any journey the recommendations and obligations announced by the health authorities must be respected.
It should be noted that walks along the seafront, cycle rides and other trips out of doors are not permitted, that practically all public events have been cancelled and even dog-walking is allowed only if the outing is kept short and extremely local.
At the same time, the only shops open are supermarkets selling food, chemists’, vets, petrol stations and “estancos” (tobacco and official stationery stores).
FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THESE EMERGENCY MEASURES CAN RESULT IN HEAVY FINES.
Bars and restaurants are closed across the entire nation.
PLEASE STAY AT HOME AND RESPECT THE NEED TO AVOID THE FURTHER SPREAD OF THE CORONAVIRUS.
What to do if you are in the Region of Murcia and believe you may have contracted the virus
The regional government has set up a special helpline to supply information to members of the public (900 121212), and also urges people to call the 112 emergency services line if they suspect that they may have contracted the virus rather than going straight to hospital or to a medical centre. Medical staff will be sent to your home to test for the virus.
The Region’s public hospitals have limited the number of visitors to just one per patient.
