The network of “Senderos Azules” is an initiative promoted in Spain by ADEAC, the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education, to recognize and promote sustainable and environmentally friendly walking paths, this contributing to the enjoyment and preservation of nature and ethnographic heritage.
The “Tres Bahías” (Three Bays) route in Águilas has been named as one of these routes, and this guided walk on Saturday 28th June along the first section of the route begins at 9.00 at the Casica Verde. Although it includes the climb up to the castle it is classified as being of only moderate difficulty and is expected to last approximately 3 hours including the return from the castle to the starting point (on this return leg there are no stops for explanations).
Along the way, participants will pass the headland of the Peñón del Roncaor, the lighthouse and the fishing port, as well as the old Roman baths and other locations of interest and historical importance.
The tour is free of charge but online registration is required here. Naturally, appropriate walking footwear, sun cream and plenty of drinking water are strongly recommended.

Águilas boasts 28 kilometres of coastline, with many fine, sandy beaches, sheltered coves and unspoilt natural beaches. It is a great summer favourite with Spanish holidaymakers, so always has a superb programme of concerts and activities throughout the summer, as well as the biggest carnival in the Region of Murcia, 40 days before Semana Santa (Easter.)
Throughout the year it also has a number of museums and historical attractions, a castle with fabulous views overlooking the bay and several other points of interest, all of which make it an good place to visit for days out. Throughout the year the tourist office runs monthly guided tours and the route of the railways, which explores the railway history of the town.
The tourist information office is located in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos, just a short walk from the sea front and Plaza de España, a cool, shaded space in which to enjoy a coffee.
