Click HereAn itinerant exhibition entitled “Huellas de la Europeización en la Región de Murcia”, tracing the ways in which immigrants influenced the Region of Murcia in the past, is visiting the auditorium of Águilas from July 15 to August 26.
The exhibition traces 12 families who migrated to Murcia from different parts of Europe and how they left an impression on the municipalities in which they settled: in the case of Águilas, the story told is that of the Englishman Gustave (Gustavo) Gillman, after whom the regular monthly Águilas railways guided tour is named.
Gillman was a polymath - a musician, an engineer, a painter, a linguist (he spoke 11 languages, one of which was Spanish), a photographer, a businessman, a Spanish guitarrist, an astronomer, an historian and a metallurgist, as well as a husband and father.
“Huellas de la Europeización en la Región de Murcia” is visiting six venues this summer, and reaches Águilas as the third port of call after Cartagena and Mazarrón before moving on to Lorca, Cieza and Murcia. The other subjects apart from Gustavo Gillman are Bernard Haslip Bruntob (Cieza), Pedro Moulia de Chardie (Lorca), Hans Nonnast (Mazarrón), Juan Federico Holzawarth, Manuel Massotti, Hugo Dahlberg and the Smilg family (Murcia) and Karl Fricke and the Rolandi, Spottorno and Braquehais families in Cartagena.
The exhibition can be seen at the auditorium in Águilas between 19.00 and 22.00 in the evening.

Águilas boasts 28 kilometres of coastline, with many fine, sandy beaches, sheltered coves and unspoilt natural beaches. It is a great summer favourite with Spanish holidaymakers, so always has a superb programme of concerts and activities throughout the summer, as well as the biggest carnival in the Region of Murcia, 40 days before Semana Santa (Easter.)
Throughout the year it also has a number of museums and historical attractions, a castle with fabulous views overlooking the bay and several other points of interest, all of which make it an good place to visit for days out. Throughout the year the tourist office runs monthly guided tours and the route of the railways, which explores the railway history of the town.
The tourist information office is located in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos, just a short walk from the sea front and Plaza de España, a cool, shaded space in which to enjoy a coffee.
