Irish dad found dead and covered in bite marks in Spain

Investigators in Spain have been left baffled following the death of a 45-year-old Irish tourist in the centre of Magaluf in the early hours of Monday morning, July 1. Michael Grant was found in the middle of Calle Martín Ros García in the bustling district of Calvià at 4.30am, covered in bite marks and sporting various other injuries.

Moments before medics were called, a bouncer working nearby noticed Michael staggering along the road, which is very close to the Punta Ballena party strip. He told police that the father-of-four, who was on holiday with his wife Leanne, his kids and several other families, suddenly collapsed and didn’t get up again.

Sources later told officers that he had spent the day drinking by the pool before they all went out that night. The Irishman somehow became separated from his group.

Emergency workers tried to revive Michael but he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. But a preliminary post-mortem carried out early on Tuesday July 2 has cast even more confusion on the tragic incident.

While investigators initially believed Michael may have had a heart attack, an examination of the body found several mysterious injuries. Michael had sustained multiple bite wounds to his arm and shoulder and the coroner also found abrasions on his legs that could suggest he was hit by a car. One deep cut still had glass inside.

A more detailed post-mortem has now been ordered and investigators are understood to be examining CCTV footage from the area to try to identify the driver suspected of hitting him.

“Injuries on Mr Grant’s leg are consistent with him being run over by a car,” an official source revealed.

“They don’t appear on the face of it to be life-threatening but they have opened up the possibility his death might not be an accident.

“Mr Grant’s friends and loved ones including his wife will be questioned as part of the investigation to see if they can shed any light on what happened and help investigators build up a detailed picture of the last hours of his life.”
