The Department of Health and Digital Transformation has organised a pilot scheme for a series of free dog training workshops, aimed at dog owners living in Murcia city, which will take place one Saturday a month until the end of the year.

The local Councillor for Health explained that “the aim is to raise awareness of respect for animals, educate people in responsible dog ownership and improve coexistence between dogs and people. We not only want to avoid conflicts with neighbours or with other people who share public spaces, but also to protect these animals, as ultimately the behavioural problems of a pet can be the cause of abandonment.”

To this end, four courses have been scheduled for the following dates:

Saturday September 17 Dog management on public roads: To work on basic training techniques aimed at correctly leading the dog on public roads, avoiding pulling, responding to basic commands and showing calm behaviour when passing other dogs.
Saturday October 15 Socialisation problems in puppies and foster dogs: To work on basic training techniques aimed at dogs with socialisation problems with other animals or people.
Saturday November 19 How to make good use of the Pipi-can: Learn the possibilities of the Pipi-can, its correct use and the possibilities of interaction and socialisation that it offers.
Saturday December 17 Rules of coexistence of dogs in the home: The importance of setting rules and guidelines for the dog in the home as a way of avoiding unwanted behaviour that often leads to abandonment.

The workshops will be in Spanish and will take place in the Municipal Auditorium of Murcia Norte (Thader) from 10am to 2pm and owners must attend accompanied by their dog.
