ARCHIVED - Fire at Torre Pacheco recycling plant
The fire began shortly before 6am
Firecrews had an early start on Tuesday when fire broke out at a plastics recycling plant on the La Estrella industrial park in Torre Pacheco shortly before 6 in the morning.
Policía Local and firemen from the regional fire services, the CEIS, attended the callout and were soon joined by the fire service from Cartagena and additional crews from the regional fire department due to the ferocity of the blaze.
A dense cloud of black smoke covered the area as dawn broke, burning plastic tainting the air with an acrid odour.
Proteción Civíl was drafted in to assist local police in controlling traffic as workers started to arrive on the industrial estate.
No casualties or injuries were reported and no indication has been given as to how the blaze began, but the site is now under control.
