Escape to the country: 1 hour from Alicante, jobs aplenty and houses for 11,000 euros
This charming town in Valencia is offering incredible incentives to attract new residents
In Spain, while big cities are bustling with growth, many small towns are facing a different challenge: depopulation. People are leaving these charming inland towns in search of opportunities, leaving behind quiet streets and closed businesses.
But here's the exciting part: these towns also offer a unique opportunity for those ready for a change of pace. Affordable housing, a peaceful lifestyle and a chance to be part of a growing community are just a few of the perks.
To help reverse this situation, initiatives such as Holapueblo have emerged, a platform that connects people interested in moving to rural environments with municipalities looking for new residents with a sense of adventure.
One such gem is Enguera, a Valencian municipality that's just over an hour from Alicante. While Alicante itself hasn't signed up with the Holapueblo project yet, Enguera has everything you need for a fulfilling life in the countryside without sacrificing essential services.
Why Enguera?
Nestled in the Canal de Navarrés region, Enguera is a town where history and nature blend seamlessly. Surrounded by the stunning Sierra de Enguera, it's a paradise for nature lovers. Plus, the town is rich in history, with sites like the ruins of Enguera Castle and the Parish Church of San Miguel adding to its charm.
Enguera's economy has traditionally revolved around agriculture, with olive oil and wine production being the stars. But the town is also embracing rural tourism, offering a range of opportunities for entrepreneurs.
The council is actively working to attract new residents and businesses through the Enguera Avanza 2023 program, which provides incentives for young people looking to settle down and start new ventures.
One of the biggest draws? The cost of living. While free rent might not be on the table, Enguera offers some of the most affordable housing you'll find. For instance, you can snag a small wooden house on a campsite for just 11,000 euros.
If you prefer renting, you can find cosy homes for as little as 500 euros per month. That's a steal compared to the big cities.
Enguera also needs professionals in construction, masonry, carpentry and plumbing. Plus, there's a high demand for home care and elderly care services, making it a great place to start a career in these fields.
Enguera is just 72 kilometres from Valencia and about an hour and 20 minutes from Alicante by car. It's the perfect balance of rural charm and urban convenience.
Whether you're looking to start a new business, embark on a new career or simply enjoy a peaceful lifestyle, Enguera has something for everyone.
