ARCHIVED - December 28 Serenade to Paco Rabal at the Casa de la Cultura in Aguilas
A classical guitar tribute to the actor, one of Águilas’ favourite sons, 21 years after his death
When actor Paco Rabal died in 2001 the town of Águilas lost one of its most famous sons, a man who was born in the humble setting of the tiny hamlet of Cuesta de Gos and went on to become a Hollywood star during the 1960s.
The Casa de la Cultura in Águilas is named after him, and on December 28 is the venue for the annual tribute paid in the form of a serenade to the great man. On this occasion the performers are classical guitarists Antonio Jaime García Mengual, Vicente J. Sáez Martínez and Concepción Coll Jara, and the performance begins at 21.00.
Admission is free of charge.

Águilas boasts 28 kilometres of coastline, with many fine, sandy beaches, sheltered coves and unspoilt natural beaches. Throughout the year it also has a number of museums and historical attractions, a castle with fabulous views overlooking the bay and several other points of interest, all of which make it an good place to visit for days out. Throughout the year the tourist office runs monthly guided tours and the route of the railways, which explores the railway history of the town.
The tourist information office is located in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos, just a short walk from the sea front and Plaza de España, a cool, shaded space in which to enjoy a coffee.
