ARCHIVED - Covid deaths down more than half in just one week as 4th jab approaches: Andalusia Covid update June 17
The number of new Covid infections has also gone down significantly in the last seven days
There are fewer than 3,000 new coronavirus cases in Andalucía since the last count, and the number of deaths from the virus have dropped from 56 last Friday to just 18 this Friday.
While fewer people are being vaccinated, there are already more than 4.3 million people in the region who have already received three doses of the vaccine and the government has stated this week that they will consider giving a fourth dose to everyone as of this autumn.
New infections
Andalucía has registered this Friday June 17 a total of 2,924 new cases of coronavirus since Tuesday – 470 fewer than those counted three days ago. Of these, 1,406 were in people over 60, bringing the total number of infections in Andalucía since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,528,013.
Cumulative incidence rate
Regarding the current average incidence of infection in Andalucía in the last 14 days in people over 60 years of age, this continues to fall to 255.6 points per 100,000 inhabitants, which is 17 points less than three days ago, when it stood at 272.6 points.
Hospitalisations
There are 18 fewer hospital admissions than last Tuesday, when 498 were recorded, while the number of admissions to intensive care units has fallen by three to 22.
By provinces, Seville is the one with the most hospitalised patients with a total of 111, of which seven are in ICU; followed by Málaga with 102, three in ICU; Cádiz with 68, four in ICU; Granada with 61 hospitalised, one in ICU; Córdoba with 52, two in ICU; Jaén with 46, five in ICU; Huelva with 21, none in ICU; and Almería with 19, and none in intensive care units.
Deaths
The number of deaths in Andalucía in the last three days is 18, compared to 33 in the last report, a drop of 15.
Vaccinations
In terms of vaccines, Andalucía has administered a total of 18,555,973 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to date and a total of 7,448,203 people in the region have the full vaccination schedule (two doses from Pfizer, Moderna or Astrazeneca, or one from Janssen), while 7,608,426 have at least one dose.
In addition, a total of 4,357,025 people have third booster doses.
With these figures, the region has 87.9% of the population with the full vaccination schedule, 95.2% of those over 12 and 91.7% of those over five, while 89.8% of the population, 96.5% of those over 12 and 93.7% of those over five have received at least the first dose.
