ARCHIVED - Communities in Spain that require Covid passports this weekend
High coronavirus figures have forced many communities in Spain to impose restrictions
Millions of people are getting ready for the break this weekend that comes with the Constitution holiday, but the celebrations will be somewhat marred by the arrival of the Omicron variant and the rise in coronavirus numbers throughout Spain. As a result, many communities have implemented restrictions and safeguards to protect residents, and we’ve compiled a list of some of the regions where a Covid passport will be required from December 3.
Andalucía
There were plans to implement a Covid passport system in health centres and elderly care homes but the request was denied by the Superior Court as no end-date was specified. However, the regional government plans to resubmit its request, asking that the measure be maintained until after the Three Kings in January.
The Balearic Islands
From Friday December 3, adults wishing to enter bars or events with a capacity of more than 50 will have to present a Covid passport. This measure has been in place since October for access to discos and nursing homes.
The Canary Islands
Any business owners or main organisers of events can request Covid certs at their own discretion, in which case they will be subject to more relaxed capacity restrictions. This regulation has not yet been ratified by the courts, but could well come into force before the holiday. In addition, all travellers to the Canary Islands will have to present of Covid passport.
Valencian Community
From midnight on December 3, patrons must have a vaccination cert, proof of having overcome the virus or a negative Covid test in order to enter all hospitality, leisure and entertainment venues with a capacity of more than 50 people. A passport is also necessary to enter hospitals and care homes, and it will be requested at any mass events of more than 500 people.
The Covid passport must be presented in digital or paper form along with an identification document, such as a passport.
Murcia
Covid passports are not required in the Region except for entertainment venues where the capacity is 100%. Hospitality and celebratory events in Abarán, Alhama, Fuente Álamo, Mazarrón and Torre-Pacheco currently have an indoor capacity of 30% because they are at the very high risk level.
