ARCHIVED - Bullas in the snow January 2020 as emergency services prepare for the arrival of snow tourists
Snow has covered the North-west of the region
As of Monday afternoon the RM-15 between Bullas and Caravaca de la Cruz is only open to cars; no lorries or buses are currently able to use the carriageway, and in high-lying areas of the region 10 snowploughs are hard at work clearing roads. The regional highways department has already removed snow from 390 kilometres of roads, using 124,47 tons of salt and spraying more than 20,000 litres of salted water onto road surfaces to prevent ice forming.
Most of the snow is in the north-west of the region and emergency services are already anticipating additional work as "snow tourists" head out from the regional capital and coastal areas to see this little witnessed phenomena! Three years ago the picturesque countryside around Bullas and in the north-west of the region witnessed a second wave of work for regional services when motorists became wedged in mud and slush after "going for a gawp".
At the moment the emergency services are requesting that the snow tourists remain at home and avoid unnecessary day trips.
