Click HereThere were marches, demonstrations and gestures of solidarity all over Spain on Monday to mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and in Águilas the Plaza de España was bedecked with purple for the day as three road signs in the shape of broken hearts were installed in order to raise awareness of the issue. The slogan "No a la violencia machistas" (No to sexist violence) was also in evidence on placards hung at various public buildings and on stickers which were distributed to members of the public by the 100 por so people taking part in the event.
The Town Hall took part under the motto “¿Necesitas ayuda? Cuenta con todas” (Do you need help? Count on all of us) as councillor Elena Casado made a speech rejecting gender violence and reiterating that the victims include not only women but also their children. Sra Casado is one of those who is adamant that the solution lies in education, and efforts to provide that kind of education continue in the town for the rest of the week.
