British tourist mugged twice in minutes on famous Spanish island
Thieves stole Rolex worth 150K outside of bar in Mallorca
A 55-year-old British man was mugged in two separate incidents, just minutes apart, after leaving a bar in Palma, Mallorca. The man, who has remained anonymous, was withdrawing cash close to the famous La Bodeguita Del Medio cocktail bar when a lone thief approached and stole his iPhone, worth around £800.
Just moments after the attack, as the man was still in disbelief and shock, two other men approached him and stole his diamond set Rolex Day-Date watch from his wrist.
The Brit valued his watch at roughly £150,000, although Spanish authorities later priced the stolen Rolex at just over £100,000.
Senegalese migrant Mbengue Alla, 31, appeared in court accused of stealing the victim's phone and was handed a three-month suspended sentence for the theft.
Amine Benserai, 34, and Hicham Ziroki, 33, both Algerian, have stood trial in a Palma court accused of the violent watch robbery, which saw the victim thrown to the floor.
Finally, another man, Mbaye Modou Anna, to who the two men sold the Rolex for just £5,000, received a six-month suspended sentence for receiving stolen goods.
The details of this story have only come to light fully, following the trials of the muggers, in the past few days and have coincided with the news that two British tourists were involved in a horrific mugging at the famous Costa Brava resort of Lloret de Mar.
A masked mugger ambushed the pair demanding cash and valuables. One of the tourists was stabbed as a result of the scuffle. The woman was reported to have been "bleeding heavily" before being transported to a nearby hospital.
A suspect was arrested close to the scene on Monday, and a phone belonging to one of the tourists was recovered.
