ARCHIVED - Woman arrested in Los Nietos for posing as a nurse and offering coronavirus tests
The arrested claimed to be a qualified medic and visited “patients” at their homes
A woman in her thirties has been arrested by the Guardia Civil in Los Nietos, on the coast of the Mar Menor in the municipality of Cartagena, for posing as a healthcare professional and offering to carry out coronavirus diagnostic tests on those living in and around the town.
The woman was visiting people’s homes dressed in a white gown of the kind worn by medical staff and equipped with a stethoscope, an infra-red thermometer, a facemask and protective gloves, falsely assuring residents that she was medically qualified to perform and evaluate the tests. However, her activities came to the attention of the staff at the 112 emergency services coordination centre, and after they reported her to the Guardia Civil further investigations revealed that by offering her services to local residents she was potentially preventing the detection of Covid-19 cases by properly authorized medical staff.
Unfortunately, various residents were taken in and took advantage of her offer of help, keen to obey the lockdown restrictions and avoid putting themselves and others at risk by leaving their homes.
When the Guardia tracked her down the woman initially refused to provide proof of her identity, but she now faces charges of civic disobedience and unqualified medical practice.
Remember: LOCKDOWN MEANS LOCKDOWN. STAY AT HOME. STAY SAFE AND DO YOUR BIT TO REDUCE THE SPREAD OF CORONAVIRUS.

What to do if you are in the Region of Murcia and believe you may have contracted the virus
The regional government has set up a special helpline to supply information to members of the public (900 121212) if they suspect that they may have contracted the virus rather than going straight to hospital or to a medical centre.
Sensible precautions
The advice being issued to members of the public by medical authorities all over the world coincides on the following points:
- Wash hands frequently with either soap and water or a sanitiser gel
- Catch coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues – and throw the tissues away immediately after use before immediately washing your hands!
- If you don’t have a tissue, use your sleeve – and wash the item of clothing used at the next opportunity
- AVOID touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
- AVOID close contact with people who are unwell
- Don´t panic!
