ARCHIVED - Surge in demand for holiday rental properties throughout the Costa Cálida

Increased domestic tourism fuels a rise in rental and sales activity on the coastline of Murcia

The level of international tourism in the Region of Murcia is likely to be lower than in previous years during the summer of 2021 due to on-going travel restrictions in numerous European countries, especially the UK, but the increased demand for accommodation among visitors from other parts of Spain is reported to be leading to full bookings at rental properties all along the coast.

Many of those snapping up rental accommodation for all or part of the summer are from elsewhere in Murcia, particularly the regional capital, but there is also a high level of interest from Madrid, Albacete and Valencia. Agencies report full bookings in practically all Mediterranean resorts, from La Manga and Cabo de Palos in the east to La Azohía, Isla Plana, Puerto de Mazarrón and Águilas in the south-west, although some vacancies are still to be found in some of the towns along the inland shore of the Mar Menor, such as Los Urrutias, Los Nietos and Islas Menores.

So great is the demand that homes are being snapped up even at prices as high as 4,000 euros for the month of August in La Manga and Cabo de Palos, while 3-bedroom apartments are fetching around 1,800 euros in La Azohía and Isla Plana.

At the same time, many of those who are holidaying in the Costa Cálida this summer rather than travelling abroad are expressing an interest in acquiring their own properties in Murcia, and estate agencies on the coast are hoping for a busy summer in the sales department as well as a surge in rental activity!
