ARCHIVED - New Corvera coach service contract almost ready to be put out to tender
The routes specified in the contract terms are similar to those already being operated by Interbus
Just over a year since commercial flights began at the Region of Murcia International Airport in Corvera the regional government is continuing with its project to establish regular coach services between the terminal and the main cities and coastal resorts of the Costa Cálida, and has published the draft conditions for the putting out to tender of a 5-year contract to operate four lines.
When this contract is eventually awarded it will replace the shorter-term arrangement which is already allowing similar services to be operated by Interbus, as has been the case since the first flights took off and landed at Corvera on 15th January 2019. In the meantime, Interbus will continue to operate routes very similar indeed to the four contained in the draft tender details published on Tuesday.
When they come into operation, the four routes included in the “Aerobús” package will not be subsidized, although the coaches used will bear the logo and branding specified by the regional government. The routes outlined connect the airport with the following destinations:
Route 1: the city of Murcia.
Route 2: San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier and Los Alcázares.
Route 3: Águilas and Mazarrón.
Route 4: La Manga and Cartagena.
In all likelihood there will be a series of intermediate stops along each of the routes except the fhirst, providing services for residential developments and golf resorts such as Camposol, La Torre Golf Resort and Condado de Alhama, although this is not specified in the official document published this week.
The draft tender conditions are open to suggested modifications from interested parties until 26th February, and also include the stipulation that at least 6 vehicles must be supplied with full accessibility, free wi-fi and systems to communicate with passengers in three languages.
