Click HereThe Town Hall of Águilas has finalized details for the acquisition of the historic Casa Ruana building in the Plaza de España and now intends to put it to cultural use after refurbishment.
The 1,265-square-metre property was built in 1883 to a design by architect Justo Millán, who was also responsible for emblematic buildings such as the Teatro Romea and the bull ring in Murcia, the Palacio Provincial in Albacete and the bull ring of Algiers. It was commissioned by the Ruano y Blázquez family, one of the most important and influential of the late 19th century in the Region of Murcia.
In terms of style the Casa Ruano corresponds to an eclectic version of geometrical modernism, and is one of the few of its kind to remain standing in the municipality of Águilas.
When the transfer of the property is completed in April the next step will be to ensure that the structure is sound with a view to making it a venue for cultural events in the future.
