April 18 Free guided walk among the salt flats and windmills of San Pedro del Pinatar

The historic windmills of Quintín and Calcetera and the mud baths of San Pedro!

The salt flats of San Pedro del Pinatar are located between the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean, and are fed by a series of channels which rely on gravity and two pumping stations to fill the pools with saltwater.

The two pumping stations are inside the windmills of Quintín and Calcetera, both of which have been declared buidings of Cultural interest as they represent the history of the area, and this free guided tour explains their role in the traditional salt production activities of San Pedro. The route also includes the storage pool alongside the Molino de Quintín, where the famous mud baths are located, providing bathers with relief from aches and pains – the mud bathing was one of the attractions which first led to the growth of San Pedro del Pinatar as a tourist destination.

The tour begins at the Molino de Quintín at 17.00 and is expected to last 3 hours, covering a distance of 5.4 kilometres. Registration is available online here, and participants are advised to wear comfortable footwear and clothing which is not bright-coloured (to avoid startling the birdlife in the salt flats). Drinking water and binoculars are recommended!
