Click HerePupils in the 5th and 6th year of primary education at the Las Lomas school in Águilas have been working recently on a campaign to discourage people from leaving discarded cigarette butts on the beach, and this week presented the results of their efforts to the Mayoress, Mari Carmen Moreno, and Councillor Ginés Desiderio Navarro.
This project was undertaken within the “ESenRED” program, in which primary schools all over Europe identify local environmental issues and think of ways to tackle them, and in this case the large number of dog ends in the sand at the beautiful beaches in the municipality has inspired children aged between 10 and 13 to produce some very eye-catching work.
Among the slogans on the posters and images they have created are “No plantes tu colilla como una sombrilla” (don’t plant your cigarette butt like a sunshade), “No conviertas mi playa en tu cenicero” (Don’t use my beach as your ashtray) and “Sin colillas Águilas es una maravilla” (Without dog ends Águilas is wonderful).
