Aguilas beaches: Playa de Calabarrilla

This stretch of the Aguilas coast also includes the Playa del Fraile, Playa Cigarro and Playa Cambron 

The 28-kilometre coastline of Águilas contains a total of 36 officially listed beaches, and those of Calabarrilla, El Fraile, Cigarro and Cambron are all among those which are dotted along the black cliffs which characterize the shoreline between the Isla del Fraile and Calabardina. Few people visit them on account of the difficulty or reaching them, although they are popular among those who choose to explore the coast of Águilas by boat. 

The Playa del Fraile is not actually accessible by land as it lies on the islet of Isla del Fraile, a short swim or boat ride across the water from Playa Amarilla. Like the other three it is a small pebbly beach, and is equipped with none of the facilities such as foot showers, walkways and lifeguard points which are found at the main urban beaches of Águilas. 

Among the attractions, though, are the clarity of the water and the spectacular rocky coastline, which make access by boat a preferable option for some visitors to all four of these locations.

Playa Calabarrilla, Playa Cigarro and Playa Cambrón can all be reached by following the shoreline eastwards from Playa Amarilla, but access is difficult.

Playa de Calabarrilla is the 18th beach in the series of 36 Águilas beaches which run along the 28 kilometres of Águilas coast, working from the Almería coastline in the west down to the Lorca municipality and offer both urban and wild beaches.
