A touch of Paris arrives in Cartagena
Historic casino reimagined as Harrison Grand Café, opening Friday November 14
The elegant old Casino building on Cartagena’s Calle Mayor is about to take on a new life as a stylish European-style café. Businessman Juanpe Rubira is launching Harrison Grand Café, a new all-day dining spot that will open its doors on Friday November 14 at 8.00pm with a cocktail reception.Rubira describes the concept as “a grand European café, with a Parisian flair.” The design, he says, includes round marble tables and a refined aesthetic that sets it apart from the traditional terraces locals are used to. “We fought hard to get the City Council to approve this design, and I believe the result will have a stunning visual impact,” he adds.
After five years as director of the Parador Group in La Manga, Rubira decided to branch out on his own. “I decided to leave and invest in a business model that I knew was needed in the area,” he says. With its ornate façade and historic charm, the casino building turned out to be the perfect setting for his vision.
Beyond being a new spot for coffee, brunch, and an all-day menu, Rubira hopes Harrison Grand Café will become a lively social hub. “We want to promote networking, business breakfasts, after-work events, and co-working activities. The idea is for the café to be a vibrant, dynamic place with people from diverse backgrounds.”
The project has already caught the attention of the City Council and Empresas Cartagena. According to Rubira, “The councillors and the mayor are delighted. It’s a sensible and coherent project that can help highlight a building we all want to see in operation. I think Cartagena is at a very opportune moment to do it.”
The opening evening will give guests a first look at the café’s lighting, atmosphere, and carefully considered design. “We want people to see the concept, the lighting, the ambiance, and to enjoy the space. It will be a special evening,” Rubira says.
