ARCHIVED - 389 new cases and 5 deaths; Region of Murcia Covid Tuesday 20th October
The number of patients hospitalised passes 400, another record for the pandemic
389 new cases of coronavirus have been detected in the Region of Murcia within the last 24 hour period, a lower figure than that recorded in previous days, but this is due principally to a lower number of PCR tests being carried out in the region’s hospitals and covid testing points.
Just 2,762 tests have been undertaken within this time period, less than half the quantity of some days last week, but the percentage of positives is higher, with 14.08% of the tests returning a positive result.
Of the 389 new cases, 126 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 42 to Cartagena, 30 to Torre Pacheco, 26 to Cieza, 21 to Molina de Segura, 11 to Alguazas, 10 to Beniel, 10 to Fortuna, 10 to San Javier, 8 to Alcantarilla, 8 to Lorquí, 7 to Las Torres de Cotillas, 6 to Archena, 6 to Fuente Álamo, with the remainder distributed amongst other municipalities, albeit in smaller quantities.
Accumulated incidence rate: Fortuna remains the municipality with the highest rate per 100,000 of population at 969, followed by Totana with 549.9. The average for the region is 242, and 18 municipalities have higher than average rates of infection (see graph above).
Fatalities:
Five fatalities have been reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total of deaths reported to date in the region to 270. The deceased are two men and three women, two from Torre Pacheco, and one from each of Molina de Segura, San Pedro del Pinatar and Abanilla. The victims were aged 55, 64, 76, 82 and 91
Hospitalisations:
Pressure on the health system has continued to increase in the last 24 hours, with eight admissions taking the total up to a new record high of 401 patients with severe symptoms. One patient was admitted to intensive care, taking this total up to 78 and equalling the existing record for UCI admissions.
8,604 people remain at home in domestic isolation.
Recoveries:
479 patients have been given the all-clear during the last 24 hours, and as this figure is higher than the number of new cases detected, the number of active cases has fallen on Tuesday to 9,005.
This leaves the total number of recoveries at 18,262 of the total 29,243 people given a positive diagnosis since the pandemic began in the region.
Eight new infections in the educational centers of the Region
Five students and three teachers from eight educational centers in the Region of Murcia tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to the regional health department report. There are currently are 442 students and 33 teachers affected by the pandemic, eight more than this Monday.
117 teachers are currently quarantined and 1,125 students.
